Best men all over the world have a unique and exciting task. To be a best man requires maturity and also responsibility to assist and guide your groom into married life.
One of the more public displays of the best mans role is to stand up in front of everyone at the wedding reception and deliver a speech that is senstive and insightful but also witty and funny.
Not surprising the best man speech is like a bitter pill to the best mans 'buffet dessert smorgasboard'. Many best men cringe at the prospect of giving a speech in front of so many people. It is not surprise that many best men then count on some "dutch courage" alcohol to calm their nerves enough to deliver their speech.
However unfortunately many best men do their wrong here. Drinking excessively prior to the wedding reception is not a smart idea. To be able to deliver the best man speech without any problems you need to be sober and still have your wits about you. You need to trust your speech writing skills and deliver your speech as you prepared for it the weeks before... Flawlessly.
Best men need to prepare their entire speech weeks before their best mates wedding. Best men also need to make sure that their best man speech has appropriate material and addresses all the key points. Once this is finalised, best men need to practise it over and over again. Repeating the speech over and over in front of the mirror to your self is common practise. I would advise that this exercise is done at least 50 times. Afterall the speech should really only be 5 minutes long and should be easily remembered.
Nonetheless delivering the best man speech should never fall to chance, therefore it is advisable for a best man to always have the best man speech written or typed on a piece of paper and used as backup at the reception. Ensure that the speech can not get wet from drink spills or even from perspiration. It is ok to have a few beers with the wedding party after the ceremony while photos are being taken but do not over do it.
When delivering the speech, be confident and ensure that your voice is projected loudly to the entire audience. Good posture is also very important as the audience will percieve you not only by your audio cues but also by your visual cues. So it is also important that you look presentable to the audience. Be courteous to everyone on the night and try not to embarrass anyone else at the expense of the groom. Ensure your best man speech is well written and practised and you should have no problem.
Good luck.
