Becoming Best Man

For a young twenty-something male it can be quite exciting and also nerve-racking faced with the new prospective of being 'best man' at his best friends wedding. Not all guys actually do asked in their lifetime to be a best man. Therefore being best man is really a privilege and an honor and all steps to ensure that your role as best man maintains its integrity is vital.
The Best Man has a few roles at the wedding and the after party. One major concern of all best man's is the speech. A best man speech is one of the most important public speaking events of the day for the best man. Since it is public speaking it can be challenging for many a 'best man', especially for a best man that has not prepared properly.
One certain thing for all best man to understand is that everybody at the wedding reception wants you to do well. No one in the audience wants you to be embarrassed or shy or feel nervous when delivering your best man speech. The audience also expects to hear some funny personal stories that will make them feel good and hopefully give them some 'warm and fuzzy lovey dovey' feelings.

Should i really buy a best man speech?

It is not strange to be a best man and think whether you should buy a professional and proven speech for the occasion. Some men believe that for a formal occasion speeches can be comparable to clothes and like fashion it is better to buy a proven style that suits you then to make your own. Afterall as long as everybody on the night leaves happy and still has a good impression of you after the best man speech.

Then on the other hand you have some sensitive folk believe that a 'bought' speech will not have the same impact on the audience as a personally hand written speech made by you. The fact that you are buying a speech 'off the shelf' to describe a close friendship that is unique within itself can be a deterrent for many best men. This is why so many Best men either write very long winded and detailed speeches and bore the audience. Or they believe that they will not even write a speech and make one up on spontanously on the evening. Perhaps the latter is the worst option a 'Best man' can choose to make, because most often than not a best man tends to drink more than the groom himself during the day/afternoon and at best can hardly string a coherent sentence together by the end of it.
Where as if a best man prepared a speech or at worse even bought a template and filled in the blanks than at least the best man could enjoy himself with the groom during the day of ceremony and celebration without any stress or concern for the speech.

In fact many men overlook the benefit of a bought best man speech template. The benefits of a good best man speech template are that it saves time, relieves stress and worrying, is short and too the point, is effective, funny and is usually a proven success.
The audience on the night will determine your success or not. A wedding audience usually has a very diverse audience demographic anyway; there can be nieces and nephews to grandmothers and great grandfathers. Some might be drinking and some may not, but there is only one guarantee you can count on with all of them. They will all be wanting for you to do well, meaning they all do not want to see you embarrass yourself or the bride and groom.

With this in mind the question whether you should buy a best man speech is really entirely up to you. As long as you achieve the same outcome and ake sure that everyone has a joyful night.

Best Man Speech Examples | Jokes

It is widely publicised and accepted in main stream media that a 'Best Man' speech at a wedding attracts a certain type of humour from all 'Best Man'. This humour is only focused at the groom and no one else. However some best man jokes are too much and can be offensive to the groom. The negative impact from this is that the audience will become uncomfortable and will remember your face the rest of the night but for all the wrong reasons.
I endorse best men to include 'light hearted humour' into their best man speech but always caution against under-thought out jokes which are offensive. Since the age gap in the audience can be anything from 6- 116 there are only particulare types of jokes that can be acceptably included in your speech.

For instance, commenting on how your buddy went out and bought chocolates and flowers for valentines day but sent them to the wrong addres  is an acceptable joke and not an offensive one. An offensive joke may be a personal physical deformity he may have or something similar that he has no control of. The mixture of alcohol and speeches can be dangerous. Be aware that as the best man you hold much power in the words you say. This power must not be underestimated. Best Man Speech Outline

Writing a best man speech outline can help in setting up your speech structure to make it flow easier and give you the best opportunity to live up to your 'best man stature'. A basic best man speech outline contains the following:
  1. Formal Introduction -Needs to be very short and sweet. Here you need to formally introduce yourself as the best man  (your name) and give toasts to the bride and bridesmaids (also mention how beautiful the bride looks) Basically you want to get all the formalities out of the way early on in the introduction. Another tip is also recognising the mother of the bride and also the mother of the groom for their participation in the wedding and anybody else that you/groom knows of.
  2. Back Story - Aim for between 1-3 mins. As best man you need to explain how you personally know the groom and tell a quick funny story about him and the bride. This funny story should be able to be tied into your 'Ending' as a funny clincher.
  3. Content - Aim for 3 mins. The stories need to be very short and should be a minute or less in length. This would be typically stories or recollections you had of the groom only. Do not bring up past girlfriends or ex-wifes etc.
  4. Ending - 1-2 minutes. The ending should be a funny joke of the groom but tied into the 'back story'. The aim of the ending is to leave on a 'high' and have everybody from nieces and nephews to grandma in tears laughing!. Hopefully you will have a standing ovation for your best man speech.
If you are having writers block and can not think of any content or any funny back story to include in your speech for your groom; then do not start stressing. There is a 'universal' Best man speech template available that has a money back guarantee that provides all content that will fill in your blank looking piece of paper within 5 minutes.

Best Man Speech Examples

You are a best man and needing examples of speeches to use for your own. Who can blame you? this was the very first thing i did as well... However i wish i had someone to tell me that it really was a waste of my time and that i should stop. Really the amount of time i spent trawling from page to page in google's search i could of written one myself, or with the amount of money i could of earnt in those hours instead i could of paid somebody to write a killer speech for me!

Infact it was really the latter that helped me the most. What's that you say? Did i actually pay somebody to write my 'Best Man' speech? ... Absolutely!  well not in the truer sense but close enough. I actually paid for 'killer' best man speech template. I soon later found out there were hundreds of these speech templates available online. But that would not of mattered because i had found a winner. This best man speech template was not for free but did cost $20.00 and was the best decision that i made.

Best Man Speech | Tips on how to write one

Listen up all Best Mans out there, i will tell you essentially what you need to include and what not to include when writing a best man speech. You do not want to fuck it up! correct?

Do include in your best man speech:
  1. 'Bring confidence to the speech'- (In your delivery of the speech) you need to relax and confidently tell your speech to the audience. If that means have a one or two beers before it then do it but remember you do not want to be DRUNK! this is important.
  2. 'When writing your speech always think of the audience, and how they will recieve it' - Your audience at the wedding reception will usually be aged from as young as 2 years old to 92 years old. You need to take into account this broad audience range. This is essential, make no mistake.
  3. 'Ensure it flows smoothly' - Make sure that when you read your speech back to yourself or to a close friend or family member that it is understandable. Ensure that the timeline and events you describe can be followed easily.
  4. 'Be nice'- Acknowledge how beautiful the bride AND groom is and how much time it took the mother of the bride and groom to prepare for it all.
  5. 'Be Sensitive'- It does not hurt to show your emotional side in your speech just a little bit! DO not cry, or try to make everybody cry. The reason why i say 'be sensitive' is that empathy at a celebration like a wedding is acceptable and it won't hurt your chances with the bridesmaids either.
  6. ' Be Memorable' - You do want to tell a memorable story that everybody will like and hopefully find a little bit funny, and of course remember. Some hints to get you started might be how the groom first met the bride or if that is not a memorable and nice/funny then choose another.
  7. 'Be Funny'- ensure that your audience (aged 2-92) should find it funny.

Don't include in your best man speech:
  1. Talk about Ex girlfriends/divorces or past relationships of the groom or bride.
  2. Get involved in family disputes or arguements that may have been discussed before or during the wedding.
  3. Who payed for the wedding or contributed most towards the wedding.
  4. Insulting or offending remarks about any person at the wedding including the Groom. - Always think if you tell a possible offending joke about the groom will the overall audience find it funny or not? that will guide your decision to include or exclude the joke in your speech.
  5. Information about any part of the Bucks night. NO ONE WANTS TO KNOW THIS AT THE WEDDING RECEPTION.
  6. Any negative comments of the bride and grooms future together.- This is a wedding and a celebration of a union.
  7. Personal marital stories or personal relationship problems or any negative story about marriage or relationships. This is common sense!
